The Journey So Far (Melrose → Providence)

By Alex · Sep 27, 2025 · 4 min read

Last fall, we kicked off Bach & Boogie at two senior communities in Melrose: The Fitch Home and The Residence at Melrose Station. What started as a simple idea—toddlers and elders sharing real music together—quickly grew into a weekly ritual people looked forward to.

Both locations ran for two seasons. We saw shy toddlers warm up during Largo, babies start to dance during Allegro, and residents who hadn’t joined group activities in a while come back for the music (and the chaos!). Parents told us it became their favorite part of the week.

Passing the Torch in Melrose

When my family needed to move to Providence, I worried about leaving the Melrose classes behind. Then something wonderful happened: George, a parent from the program, raised his hand to keep it going at The Residence at Melrose Station. He’s brought his own presence and joy to the circle, and the class has kept thriving. I’m so grateful—and honestly proud—to see the community carry the idea forward.

Why this works: we keep the flow simple (Allegro → Largo → Vivace → Boogie), we use real music, and we give kids freedom to explore. That mix makes room for connection to happen naturally.

What’s Next: Hello, Providence!

We’re starting a brand-new session in Providence—Bach & Boogie is officially here. Classes will be hosted at Wingate on Blackstone, and I couldn’t be more excited to bring this program to a new community.

If you’re curious about the deeper “why” behind all this, I wrote more about the journey and the build-in-public mindset over on our Substack. It’s the longer version with a bit more heart.
